Pearl farm visit

In March 2016, the Poemana team visited a pearl farm in Thailand.
The country is ideally placed for the cultivation of Akoya and South Sea pearls.

Oysters of different species grow in enclosures to produce pearls of different colors and sizes.

Akoya pearls

Akoya cultured pearls, originally from Japan, can be grown in Thailand, and in its more moderate waters, take on more varied colors.

These nacres are small and delicate, but produce pearls that are naturally white, darker to black and even golden.

South Sea pearls

In different enclosures are larger nacres, which create South Sea pearls, larger than Akoya pearls.
