PEARL FARM VISIT

During March of 2016, Poemana's team visited a pearl farm in Phuket, Thailand.
Thailand is ideally placed, as its waters allows it to cultivated Akoya pearls, and South sea pearls.

In the underwater pens grow different species of oysters, in order to cultivate different sizes and colors of pearls.

Akoya pearls

Akoya cultured pearls, originally from Japan, can be cultivated in Thailand, and in the warmer waters of Southeast Asia, Akoya pearls take on a more varied palette of colors and nuances.

These oysters are small and delicate, but allow the creation of small pearls naturally white, dark/black, and even golden.

South Sea pearls

In different pens are larger oysters, that create the larger South Sea pearls.
